Barcelona
Barcelona is the capital of Catalunya – the north-eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula. The city is situated directly on the Mediterranean coast and is therefore famous for its pleasant climate, sea, sun and beach. The wonderful climate allows visitors to enjoy it at least 8 months of the year. In addition to this, Barcelona offers a great mix of culture, art, history, and entertainment. The historical nighbourhood, called „Barri Gòtic“, is at the heart of the city, built up of small streets built in the Gothic period. The cathedral and the main squares of "Plaça Sant Jaume" and "Plaça del Rei" remind us of Barcelona's Golden Age (beginning on the 12th century).
Next to it you find the Rambla, the famous strolling boulevard leading directly to the mediterranean sea. A multitude of human statues, dancers and fortune tellers, shops and cafés are typical for this area making this street very lively and entertaining.
In the past, famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró and Antoni Gaudí have been inspired by the extraordinary flair of Barcelona. They all were marked and left their mark there! The Picasso Museum, the Miró Foundation, the Güell Park and Sagrada Familia are examples of these marks and belong to the most important sights of the city.
But Barcelona is not only a place of interest for art and culture lovers. It is also an excellent place for shopping and night life. Good restaurants and good tapas bars are part of the Catalonian gastronomic culture. Apart from this, on the streets "Passeig de Gracia" as well as "Rambla Catalunya" you can spend hours strolling through the shop paradise!
And last but not least, Barcelona also offers a wide variety of options in its nightlife. The hours are a bit different than most other European cities, but adaptable. Dinner normally begins at around 22h30 (tip: important to have a tapa at around 18h30), lead by drinks at the bars from 01h00 until 03h00 when the bars close. From there on, there is an extense list of nightclubs that are open until dawn.
